From 9-1 every Friday beginning June 6th, Waterfall Arts Center @ 256 High Street, hosts both the Belfast Art Market AND the Belfast Farmer’s Market.  Both markets have seen great expansion this season in the number and variety of vendors and products, making for a wonderful place for one stop shopping. And while you are here, you can go inside Waterfall to the gallery to see the current exhibit by Richard Norton.
Whether you love to collect pottery, photography, or hand-stitched quilts, or even like to shop for unique gift items, like wire-wrapped beach glass, hand-crafted essential oils, diachronic glassware’srecycled material bag, beer-brewed soap, or fanciful faeries, you are sure to find that perfect something at B.A.M. (Belfast Art Market). This is shopping you can enjoy and feel good about.  Buying direct has many benefits: it makes shopping more affordable, it allows you to know where your money is going, you are supporting the local economy, AND you get to meet the artisans. We will even have an artist on hand that creates durable bags for sale, that you can carry all of your great finds in to keep them safe (see image).
Julia Ventresco, of “OneWomanStudio,” located in Ellsworth, Maine, uses recycled materials, such as tarps and sails, which are altered into unique, fun handbags, while old wallpaper scraps and maps are re-purposed into stationery, and feed and grain bags become “green friendly”, one-of-a kind durable totes.  Julia says that she “enjoys finding creative uses for items that others might throw away.”   The variety of style and color is so beautiful to see, the only challenge is deciding which one to purchase!
After you’ve shopped at the market you can grab a bite to eat and tour the waterfront, before the Art Walk begins. Throughout downtown many galleries and shops stay open late, and there is a variety of live musicians for your listening pleasure.  It’s a fun and lively event, just waiting for you. Come enjoy our part of the world, even if just for a day.
