Internship Position with Belfast Arts Walks

  • Organization: Belfast Creative Coalition
  • Date: 2016 Season
  • Final date to submit applications: Jan 1st through May 1st, 2016
  • Period of internship: Ideally January –September 2016 (the internship could in theory be split: January-April, May-September, but our preference goes to a candidate who is available for the entire period)
  • Time commitment: 6-8 hours per week, estimated
  • Internship supervisor: Kimberly Callas, Belfast Creative Coalition

Description of tasks:

January-May:
  • Booking street performers (music and dance) for summer art walks
  • Contacting all participating Belfast galleries to obtain summer/fall opening schedules for web updates and press releases
May-September:
  • Writing and submitting weekly press releases about Friday Art Walks (announcing performers and opening receptions) includes newsletter and press and calendar uploads.
  • Performing website updates; posting Facebook announcements and Chamber calendar announcements
  • Coordinating performers during Friday Art Walks
  • Photographing gallery visitors and performers during Friday Art Walks
  • Setting up and help take down BCC promotional table during Art Walks
Skills and assets:
Ideally, the Belfast Arts intern would have the following skill set:
  • Good communication skills, in person and on the phone
  • Good writing skills (for press releases and grant applications)
  • Ability to be self-directed when given a set of tasks
  • Mastery of basic computer programs such as Word and Excel; ability to do graphic design is a plus
  • Comfortable using Facebook, updating simple websites
  • Decent photographic skills; ability to download photos and post them on website and Facebook
  • An affinity with the visual arts
The intern will need to have access to a (laptop) computer and phone of their own; when working downtown, supervisors can provide workspace and internet access.
Upon completion of the entire 9-month period, the supervisor will write a letter of reference for the intern to use for future educational/career purposes.
