This November, The Game Loft, a Waldo County-based after school program dedicated to promoting positive youth development through non-electronic games and community involvement, announced the start of their newest program, I Know ME. The program is designed to guide 10 youth per year for the next six years as they study all facets of the state of Maine through trips, games, and other afterschool adventures. 7th graders attending Mount View Middle School can apply by December 9th to take part in the program beginning January 9th.
I Know ME aims to engage kids with Maine’s history, geography, economics, people. promise, and challenges while instilling within them a strong sense of self and place. Programming focuses on field trips, educational enrichment, helping kids become comfortable with themselves and others, games, conversation, decision-making, and travel. Specially trained staff and volunteers ensure that the program provides food, friends, and safety while encouraging kids to become: caring, connected, confident, competent, and contributing.
Due to generous grant funding by the Emanuel & Pauline A. Lerner Foundation, I Know ME will be offered to participating families at no cost.
