A new beginning for seniors is here!  The Belfast City Council recently approved a one day a week Senior Center for Belfast.  The Center opened on Jan. 10, at a location know to all as the Boat House on Commercial St. in downtown.  It is a Drop-In Center with doors opening at 10 a.m. and closing at 3 p.m. on Tuesdays.  Come when you can, bring a friend, stay as long as you wish, leave when you are ready. The Center will be opened for you.  The Boat House will serve as home to the Center on a temporary  basis for the next several months.
The Center provides a healthy environment for seniors ages 60+ to gather and participate in social, educational and recreational activities. Come, relax, join in a discussion, play a game, do a puzzle, read a paper, bring a project you are working on, socialize with old and new friends.  Leave energized by the people you meet and what you have done. Attendees will govern the activities and services that will be offered, your input is important.
Moving forward, the aim will be to expand the numbers of people who are served in addition to services that are offered.  The Center looks forward to partnering with other organizations in the community.
Those that wish to participate in this program as a volunteer need not be seniors, all over 18 are welcomed.
If you would like to assist by donating magazines, games or puzzles; please call ahead to arrange for drop-off at City Hall.
