Midcoast Actors’ Presents Summer Musical
Midcoast Actors’ Studio presents NUNSENSE, the hilarious musical spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a talent show, August 1,2,3,8,9,10 at the UU Church in Belfast.
Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating the vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia (Child of God). Thus, the remaining nuns – ballet-loving Sister Leo (Jennifer Maher), street-wise Sister Robert Anne (Alex Clausen), befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia (Leah Smith), the Mother Superior Sister Regina (Irene Dennis), and mistress of the novices Sister Mary Hubert (Angela Domenichelli) – stage a show in order to raise the money to bury their dearly departed Sisters.
NUNSENSE is directed by MAS Founder and Artistic Director Jason Bannister and music directed and accompanied by veteran musician Joani Mitchell. Nunsense runs August 1-10 at the UU Church in Belfast. Friday and Saturday shows are at7:00 p.m., and Sundays at 3:00. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors and can be reserved by calling the Midcoast Actors’ Studio box office at 370-7592 or email@example.com.

Friday Night Flicks at the Belfast free Library – Grand Illusion
The summer of 2014 marks the centennial of the beginning of the First World War. Over the century, many great films have been made set during the war and reflecting on the issues raised by one of history’s greatest cataclysms. In commemoration, the Belfast Free Library’s free film series, Friday Night Flicks, will present eight cinematic representations of the war. All films will be shown at 7 pm in the library’s Abbott Room, and are presented free of charge.
Many critics have placed Jean Renoir’s Grand Illusion on their all-time greatest films lists. It will be presented on August 15. Erich Von Stroheim and Jean Gabin, who is often called France’s greatest movie star, lead the cast in this tale of French officers held prisoners in a German castle.
Homegrown Talent Wanted
Do you have a hidden, or not-so-hidden talent to share?
The Belfast Creative Coalition (BCC) is looking for local talent from Waldo County to participate in a telethon-style “INSPIRE-A-THON” on Sunday, September 28th at Troy Howard Middle School. This is a call to everyone from 5 to 95 with a 3-6 minute routine of any artistic genre who would like to apply for a place in the show’s lineup. Applicants will be accepted until August 15th, 2014. To apply, email who you are, what you do (in less than 50 words), how to reach you and an image if available to firstname.lastname@example.org
Individuals or groups, organized or just a one-time pick up session, are all welcome to apply: comedians, musicians, poets, martial arts, jugglers, mimes, unicyclists, dancers, or visual artists with an appropriate rehearsed demonstration. Visual artists and farmers who want to be part of the INSPIRE-A-THON, but require an on-location video, may also apply. Brief video segments will be interspersed between the live, on-stage performances.
This first, 4 hour “BCC INSPIRE-A-THON” will be televised on BCTV2 and also streamed live via the internet to areas outside the TV station’s range. There will be a live phone bank for call-in donations as well as a donate link on BCC’s website: www.belfastcreativecoalition.org
BCC would like to feature as many individuals or groups as possible. Application deadline is August 15th. Once BCC has all the applications, a performance schedule will be organized. Please be aware that there are only 4 hours and BCC will do its best to include all applicants if possible.
