Donations Welcomed for Belfast Garden Club’s Annual Green Thumb Plant Sale
Midcoast gardeners eager to start digging after this record-breaking winter are asked by the Belfast Garden Club to remember its annual Green Thumb Plant Sale set for Saturday, May 16, at the Belfast Boathouse.
The hugely popular sale depends on local gardeners, farmers and nursery operators. If you are dividing perennials or starting seedlings, consider donating some to the sale. If you wish to pick up an extra six-pack or two of flowers, veggies or herbs next time you’re shopping at your favorite local greenhouse, the club would be grateful to receive those, too.
Please bring potted plants to 10 Bradbury Street (at the corner of Charles Street) on Wednesday, May 13, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Attach a label with the plant’s generic name and color. If you want an acknowledgment letter, include your name and address, and the plant’s estimated value. If you can’t pot your donations, bring moist, labeled root balls in garbage bags. Club volunteers will pot and label them.
You may also bring donations (potted and labeled plants only) to the Belfast Boathouse at 34 Commercial Street on Friday, May 15, between 8 a.m. and noon.
If you need someone to pick up your donations, or if you have questions, contact Kelly Gould at 763-3105 or KellyGould@aol.com.
Proceeds from the Green Thumb Plant Sale help the Belfast Garden Club maintain 12 beautiful public gardens in Belfast. They also help fund its scholarship program for Waldo County high school graduates earning a degree in horticulture, sustainable agriculture or a related field.
Don’t miss the Green Thumb Plant Sale and its incredible array of annuals, perennials, herbs, veggies, gardening supplies and more on Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Belfast Boathouse.
