Color Theory 1 at Waterfall Arts
March 1 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
March 1@11:00 am – April 19@3:00 pm $280
Artists will work sequentially through a series of exercises that demonstrate the behavior of color in certain conditions. In addition to the in-class lessons, assignments issued each week will be completed at home. Attention is paid to identifying what in seen in terms of color, interpreting information and translating observation into a mix, learning color interaction, and handling paint. As the course progresses, artists will put these essentials into practice painting directly from observation. Weekly critique provides opportunity to clarify concepts and discuss whatever’s going on in the group. All are welcome – no previous experience needed. This course benefits anyone with an interest in color.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: In her work, Kris Engman explores various subjects, materials and genres as a painter of the Maine landscape. Most recently, she has exhibited at the Arden Gallery in Boston, the Schmidtberger Fine Arts Gallery in Pennsylvania, The Geras Tousignant Gallery in San Francisco and the Courthouse Gallery in Ellsworth. Kris received her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and her BFA from the Maine College of Art. Although Engman’s artistic focus was as a sculptor for twenty-five years, for more than 15 years, she has painted the Maine landscape and worked from, what she defines as, ‘the ‘simplest of still lifes’.
