Color Theory II at Waterfall Arts with Kris Engman
February 28 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
February 28@1:00 pm – April 18@5:00 pm $280
What is started in Color Theory I continues and expands in this 8 week class. Artists study color structure (harmonic relationships), composition, and application of paint, expanding the palette, finding color balance within the work, and analyzing a work as it develops. In addition, the mechanics and methodology of the painting process – different types of brushes, preparing a substrate, making paint, using extenders, adjusting for canvas size, how to put the paint onto canvas selectively and deliberately are addressed. Instead of the week-to-week assignments of Color Theory I, in this course, artists work on developing a series of small paintings that brings color issues into discussion fluidly and quickly in the weekly critiques. Previous experience of Color Theory I recommended.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: In her work, Kris Engman explores various subjects, materials and genres as a painter of the Maine landscape. Most recently, she has exhibited at the Arden Gallery in Boston, the Schmidtberger Fine Arts Gallery in Pennsylvania, The Geras Tousignant Gallery in San Francisco and the Courthouse Gallery in Ellsworth. Kris received her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and her BFA from the Maine College of Art. Although Engman’s artistic focus was as a sculptor for twenty-five years, for more than 15 years, she has painted the Maine landscape and worked from, what she defines as, ‘the ‘simplest of still lifes’. From her Belfast studio, she teaches workshops in collaboration with Waterfall Arts in Color Theory at all levels and Basic Drawing.
