Keeping Belfast Beautiful City-Wide Clean-Up May 12 @ 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
May 12 @ 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
Please join me and our group of dedicated coordinators, businesses, students and citizens this May for our first annual Belfast road side and beach clean up. The event has been in the making for some time and is growing to be a great annual event.
The city of Belfast has earmarked $2500.00 to the cause for expenses and the Belfast Parks and Recreation Department, headed by Norm Poirier, has agreed to manage all funds. Pinkerton and Sons have offered all the equipment and time needed to manage the garbage collected.
On Tuesday May 8th, 120 6th graders, organized by Martha Conway Cole, will be bussed in to clean Belfast Beaches. On May 11th at noon several businesses in Belfast are releasing employees at noon for the effort to clean designated areas. May the 12th is the big day that your help is needed.
See “Keeping Belfast Maine Beautiful” Facebook page for an on line sign up sheet provided by “Our Town Belfast”, and additional updates and details. Just show up at 7:00am at the city owned Front Street Parking lot to get your supplies and assignments. Mike Hurley has done amazing work mapping and sectioning the 59 miles of road in Belfast with both sides totaling 118 miles. Each volunteer will get a free “Keeping Belfast Maine Beautiful” safety Orange T-Shirt paid for by contributing business. After all your hard work you will be treated to hot dogs, hamburgers, soft drinks and chips in the Front Street parking lot. It’s a community thing so come do your part in Keeping Belfast Maine Beautiful! See you May 12th. John Gibbs
