Peter and the Starcatcher’ at the Crosby Center May 13

May 11 @ 7:30 pm - May 20 @ 7:30 pm

Midcoast Actors’ Studio presents Peter and the Starcatcher, its first production of the 2018 season, running May 11-20 at the Crosby Center in Belfast

Based on the 2004 novel by Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson and adapted for the stage by Rick Elice, Peter and the Starcatcher is a multiple Tony Award-winning musical. This hilarious, fantastical show is the prequel of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a Peter Pan).

Peter and the Starcatcher provides the back-story for the characters of Peter Pan, Mrs. Darling, Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys, Captain Hook and more. A cast of 17 portray more than 100 unforgettable characters, relying on imagination and ingenious bits of stagecraft to bring the story to life. Peter and the Starcatcher will have children and adults hooked from the moment they let their imagination take flight. This was the hope of Artistic Director, Jason Bannister when he chose the show to open MAS’s 2018 season.

“This is a great family show,” Bannister says. “We’re excited to offer more opportunities for children to participate in our productions, onstage and as audience members.” Midcoast Actors’ Studio will present a student matinee to select local schools as part of MAS’s growing educational outreach, through an Arts Expansion Grant from the Maine Community Foundation.

The veteran cast includes: Laila Al-Matrouk, Jason Bannister, Macy Burgess, Quinnten Charbonnier, Peter Conant, Bryan Hayes, Chris Hayes, Erin Hayes, Jay Holland, Tyler Johnstone, Grayson Koelbl, Gregory Marsanskis, Phoebe Norman, Nathan Roach, Brian Ross, Eric Sanders and Matthew Shelton.

Peter and the Starcatcher is directed by Meg Nickerson, with music direction by Deb Fournier. Bev Smith is stage manager, and Angela Bonacasa directs the fight choreography. The scenic design and construction is by Greg Marsanskis, Brian Ross and Peter Conant. Costumes are designed by Sarah Joy, Elaine Bielenberg and Linda Marie. Danielle Bannister produces.

The family-friendly musical play runs May 11, 12, and 18 at 7:30 p.m., with 2:00 p.m. matinees on May 12, 13 and 20. Please note there is no performance on Saturday, May 19. All shows are at the Crosby Center, 96 Church Street, Belfast. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students, with a family of four cap of $40.
