Waterfall Arts accepting work for annual open call exhibition
Waterfall Arts’ annual Open Call exhibition will again take over its Clifford and Corridor Galleries this spring! ALTERNATIVE ENVIRONMENTS will be on view from April 5 to May 10. Work for the ALTERNATIVE ENVIRONMENTS Open Call exhibition must be submitted between March 26 and 29th. This is a non-juried open call. Work may be dropped off during office hours, Tuesday – Friday, from 10:00AM to 5:00PM.
ALTERNATIVE ENVIRONMENTS will display works of art that explore alternative or unconventional spaces. What might it look like or feel like to explore an alternative of unconventional space through art? What happens when unusual perspectives are applied to depictions of familiar surroundings? What might a human-made environment look like in the future? Artists near and far are invited to explore alternative environments, whether natural, mythical, fantastical, or simply unfamiliar.
The annual Open Call show at Waterfall Arts is an opportunity for everyone to participate in the creative dialogue springing from the 2019 exhibition theme “Alternative Environments.” Artists are invited to bring their work (one piece per artist) to Waterfall Arts from March 26-29 between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Friday, March 29 is the deadline for dropping off work. All mediums accepted, in 2D or 3D. Work must be properly framed for hanging or placement in a gallery setting and may be for sale. This is a non-juried exhibition.
The ALTERNATIVE ENVIRONMENTS exhibition will open on Friday, April 5 with a reception from 5:00 to 7:00PM. Waterfall Arts is located at 256 High Street in downtown Belfast. For more information, visit waterfallarts.org/open-call/ or call (207)-338-2222. Exhibitions at Waterfall Arts are made possible by the Onion Foundation, Morton Kelly Charitable Trust, and the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Launched in 2000, Waterfall Arts is a community arts center that offers resources to students, professionals, and arts enthusiasts of all ages. Opportunities include classes, exhibitions, art events, performances, open community studios (clay, print, and darkroom photography), public art projects, and more.
