Waterfall Arts to offer weekly Art Hive pop-up studio
February 7 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until April 25, 2019
Waterfall Arts is excited to announce their participation in the international Art Hives Network with their latest offering, the Art Hive. The first Art Hive will be on Thursday, February 7th, from 1-4pm and will continue weekly on Thursdays. Many materials will be available to create with, including paints, pastels, collage, and fiber arts. There is no fee to participate and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. All ages are welcome (kids under 12 must come with a supervising adult).
Lisa Cohn, an Art Therapist in Belfast, has been dreaming of facilitating an Art Hive in Belfast for several years. “I was really drawn to the idea of creating a community space that is open to everyone. Having worked with teens, Veterans, elders, and children with a variety of challenges, I have seen how art can truly change lives. I also see much value in bringing together all types of people to inspire and challenge and create together.”
The Art Hives Network connects small and regenerative community arts studios together in order to build solidarity across geographic distances. This effort seeks to strengthen and promote the benefits of these inclusive, welcoming spaces across Canada, and throughout the world. These spaces, create multiple opportunities for dialogue, skill sharing, and art making between people of differing socio-economic backgrounds, ages, cultures and abilities. The Art Hive at Waterfall Arts will be the 158th Art Hive opened within North America and Europe.
The Art Hive pop up open studio will run every Thursday, starting February 7th, from 1:00-4:00pm in the Bridge Studio. Waterfall Arts is located at 256 High Street in downtown Belfast. For more information, visit waterfallarts.org or call 338-2222.
Launched in 2000, Waterfall Arts is a community arts center that offers resources to students, professionals, and arts enthusiasts of all ages. Opportunities include classes, exhibitions, art events, performances, open community studios (clay, print, and darkroom photography), public art projects, and more.
