Winterizing Gardens

October 19 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Senior gardener gardening in his permaculture garden – preparing the ground for winter at the end of summer

After a bountiful season, it’s time to prepare your garden for winter — and ensure a beautiful and vibrant spring! This program walks one through what can be done to get your property, including gardens, ready for winter — from cleaning out the vegetable garden to protecting trees and shrubs.

Speaker Jean Vose is a Master Gardener, certified horticulturist and former backyard beekeeper living in Nobleboro where she has created gardens to attract pollinators as well as other beneficial creatures. With more than 25 years experience gardening, Vose provides horticultural programs for various community groups. Her passions include gardens, pollinators and birds. She has been a “birder” for many years and in the winter, counts birds for Cornell’s Project Feeder Watch.

Vose’s program will include a slideshow and informative tips for all kinds of gardens. According to Vose, “The most important preparations many people skip is winter mulching and other types of winter plant protection.”
