What happens when you bring together three talented songwriters, three fine vocalists, and three artists trained in improvisational singing? You get a trio named Brio!
Deb Hensley, Matt Loosigian and Martin Swinger have been singing together for over seven years– initially as part of Maine’s premier vocal improv quintet, ImproVox.
When ImproVox shifted its focus to become a wider collective for improvisational artists, Deb, Matt and Martin continued to imagine new ways to keep singing together.
Through a school residency introducing improvisational singing to youngsters in the Kingfield/Farmington area, Brio was inspired to refocus performance energy towards a more purposeful message. Brio includes guitar, harp and percussion as part of their program, although a cappella/improv is still a primary focus.
Blending Deb’s background in early childhood education and transformative language arts, Matt’s family focused and ecologically minded songs with Martin’s work as an arts educator and award-winning songwriter, Brio! recognizes the vital roll singing plays in community building. Their music is dedicated to raising spirits, inspiring joy, and promoting personal and ecological wellness. They have intentionally chosen a repertoire with messages that support these goals.
Brio presents an eclectic selection of original songs, creative covers, and quirky classical daring-do. Spicing it all up with invented moments of unplanned music, the harmonic magic in the power of three shines forth.
