The Village Canoe is a multi-phase program to create art and develop community from outdoor experience. It is an immersive, outdoor, floating artist residency and exhibition, with an open call for artists to submit applications until March 31. The trip will take place from August 24th until September 1st.
Following the residency, there will be a group exhibition, populated with work from the artists-in-residence. This work may have been produced during the time away, and/or during the month between residence and exhibition. The show will take place in a pop-up venue in downtown Belfast, lasting one weekend, September 27-29, and consist of artist talks, panel discussion, immersive/interactive installation, and participatory educational workshops. Waterfall Arts will host a companion installation of The Village Canoe Exhibition in the Corridor Gallery from September 27 – November 16, extending the life of the exhibition.
This year’s residency program is offering each participating artist a small stipend, it’s free to apply, food will be provided, and we’re holding at least one seat for a Wabanaki artist on the canoe.
